About

My name is Shahan Khatchadourian and am a graduate student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto , supervised by Dr. Mariano P. Consens. My research interests include information retrieval from semi-structured data, XML, visualization, and am starting to like graph theory. I maintain a passing interest in networks, one of my undergraduate thesis projects involving grid-based web services based on Globus Toolkit 4. My aim is to apply my knowledge against social computing paradigms such as blogs, wikis, and pervasive computing. As part of my research, I have gained extensive experience in Eclipse plug-in development which has encouraged my software engineering practices such as test-driven development and software patterns.

I originally graduated with a Honours BSc - Specialist Degree in Computer Science from U of T in 2003. I had already been in the work force as a contract web programmer several years prior working with several startup companies specializing in VoIP, ecommerce, user administration, financial systems, and security. At the time I had no interest in proceeding into graduate studies as the money and life was good though as my interests in cutting-edge technologies grew, more did I realize that good research techniques are necessary. I returned to school in May 2005 to raise my marks and my efforts were met with success after being accepted into U of T.

I have lots and lots of hobbies and interests, am physically active, love to meet new people, and of course, read all the time.

Interesting site, a little difficult to understand the technological things,

very interesting site! when you read it you can perfectly imagine that Shahan is talking with you with his warm, welcoming, and of course professional style.
lot of good stuff, now I can read from here instead of bugging Shahan with my question at least for some of my questions!
good luck Shahan and keep going!
